"I am the President"

At the end of his speech, after his wife and daughters joined him on stage, and his vice president's family joined him too, the camera zoomed in on a woman in the crowd, her red hair a firey mane around her, her hands clasped tightly under her chin, her shoulders shaking with her sobs, so powerfully moved was she by the words the President had spoken. It was a moment. For me, there were many such moments during the Democratic National Convention this week—the First Lady's masterful and warmly assured speech, Clinton's charisma and unflinching "arithmetic," the appearance of the First Daughters, so grown up yet still so bright and unforced, and The Man himself, no longer a candidate, but our President, tried and true, making the case for a second term. I'm there, Mr. President. I'm right there.

  1. i love this man and believe in him a trillion percent!!!

(when i was little i used to sort of chuckle and roll my eyes at the women i'd read about who loved the way jackie o dressed - even the mother of my best friend tried sooo hard to style her appearance after that woman!

and now i must admit to a tiny twinge of guilt because i cannot seem to NOT say, "wow! what an awesome dress/top/sweater/pin/everything michelle is wearing!!!" everytime she appears in public - but i can't help it!! i love her taste!!!! just look at that dress!!! LOL)

  2. He's my president and I profoundly admire him and want him to succeed and yes, yes, let's keep them in the White House for another four years. Watching those girls grow up? What a joy. Just another bonus for us.

  3. I'd like to propose a toast (standing up, smoothing my dress around my hips, and raising my glass): Here's to four more!

  4. Wasn't it wonderful -- and I just commented on Mary's blog that seeing the First Family together up there, so filled with love and unforced ease, made me feel like all will be well. No matter what.

    Wonderful photos you've posted!

  5. even grumbly old cynical no-TV me is wowed by some of this pageantry, i have to admit. our side kicks ass, at least. michelle did what she had to do; clinton did; o'bama had no choice but to rock the aisles and he did. they understand that to deal with the substance, and another 4 years can only scratch the surface, for far too-many people, the spectacle is all there is. so, they gave some very fine spectacle. we'll take it; if it gets votes, i can accept in this scenario that the end justifies the means.

  7. It makes me so sad that so many people really really dislike him. They just won't allow themselves to see what he is trying to do, even when it will directly benefit them. Sigh. But yes, the DNC was fantastic.
