Seriously

NPR's This American Life asked singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles to imagine what President Obama might be thinking about the rise of Trump, but cannot say out loud. The result is this haunting piece of art, performed to perfection by Leslie Odom Jr. who stars in the Broadway hit Hamilton.

  3. I love the new header picture. Is it your house/flat? I liked the flowers too. Not listened to the video. I don't think any outcome from US election is going to be good! Our politicians here are not much better! We shall just have to wait and see and hope for the best.

    1. Frances, i thought the old header was starting to look very summery while outside my window it's become quite blustery and fall like. Yes, that my living room, a corner of it, in afternoon light. I am hoping for the best with you and the rest of the world!

    1. jenny-o, i found it so poignant and beautifully sad, a great leader questioning, as perhaps all great leaders do.

  6. I feel like we're watching the unfolding and revealing of our next big generational singer. Leslie Odom Jr is a Sinatra, a Davis, Jr, a Gaye, a Fitzgerald. I just love him (and all Hamilton related people and things) so very much.

And this is in response to your more recent post regarding freelancing: I'm trying to trust more, especially with money. I feel like I've made some missteps because I haven't trusted the Universe enough, like I have to cheat and see what it has in its hand before its ready to unveil it. I've spoiled the fun. Keep trusting. You're a writer and it's what you're called to do. Trust.

    1. Chrissy, this freelancing thing, the trust it requires, is perhaps the ultimate lesson in staying in the moment. The moment has been okay for me ever since I left a steady paycheck behind. I need to remember this when I start panicking. The panic always, always means I am looking down the road, and not seeing what the universe has in its hand, and thinking therefore that the hand might be empty. Thank you for this reminder. And thank you for being here around the kitchen table. hugs.
