Soldiering on

I think I have too much work. I'm dancing as fast as I can, trying to do a good job for everyone, it's the people pleaser in me, but you know, I'm a little worried, even a little burned out. I usually assess more accurately than this how much I can take on, how to keep due dates from overlapping and backing into each other. I didn't do so well this time, so I'm in the trenches, trying to be a good soldier. Thanksgiving with my daughter and her love and their incredibly cute and chilled out puppy was so, so good. Very low-stress. My son had to work, but he and his fiancee came over the next day, and the family togetherness was everything. Then on Saturday the man and I drove our girl and her guy back up to Boston, and turned right around, heading back home to New York the same evening. Eight hours on the road. The company was excellent both ways, and four days later we all seem to still be covid free. I hope you all are staying healthy and that you had a good, low-stress holiday, too. I might be scarce in these parts for a minute, but I'll be back doing the rounds in our lovely virtual neighborhood soon.

  1. I can totally relate. More than once I took on more work than my little studio could produce on time trying to please everyone. I lost one designer because the first time she used me her job wasn't ready on the promised date and when I tried to woo her back years later, when she realised who I was she basically ordered me out of her office. Another time I found myself yelling at another client, stopped mid-sentence and walked away leaving an employee to deal with it. I did get more work from her later but I think it was because her client wanted me. Obviously I wasn't handling the stress very well (there were other things in my personal life contributing) so I hope you manage much better than I did.

  2. So happy to see a post here and know that all is well, although crazy busy with all the work. Really glad you had a good Thanksgiving holiday celebration with your family. Take care and stay safe and healthy there.

  4. You've been in my thoughts. It's not difficult to picture you working hard at your writing table, looking up now and then to look out your window. Thank you for this note. What Love has given to us, no one can take away. That's for sure. Sending love.

  5. The best thing to do in this situation if you run into a problem is to be honest. It is very hard to confront limitations but if that's what it comes down to for you, do it. This may ultimately help you decide when saying no is in your best interest. Good luck.

  6. Thanks for letting us know that you are well and busy. Never feel as if you must apologize, though. Ever! You are probably one of the hardest working women I know.

  8. I'm glad you're doing OK, if a bit busier than usual! Take time for yourself as best you can, and we'll see you when things simmer down. Glad you had a good drive with your husband and daughter. I love long car trips. I miss them.

  9. I feel your stress. I do this to myself sometimes, many times, too. I've come to understand that on some level, I enjoy it. Keeping busy and feeling that sense of purpose. You got this. Stay balanced.
