“Everyone runs around trying to find a place where they still serve breakfast because eating breakfast, even if it's 5 o'clock in the afternoon, is a sign that the day has just begun and good things can still happen. Having lunch is like throwing in the towel.”
—Jonathan Goldstein in Lenny Bruce is Dead
Oh, that made me giggle. I love the expression "throwing in the towel."
ReplyDeleteNow that is a genius reflection, for sure.
ReplyDeleteOMG. Both the quote and the picture went right straight through to me. Posted just for me like Bruce sings about Mary.
ReplyDeletelove,
yo
I've never thought of it that way but yeah. True. And I remember back in the days when I would stay up late, going out, and we'd head to breakfast at 2 a.m. and how delicious it was, how it was just what we needed, the right combinations of protein and fat and carbohydrates for still-young bodies after a few beers, a night of dancing. We didn't think of it that way. We just knew it was what we wanted. That picture is like the very essence of comfort and civilization.
ReplyDeleteOf course. I love it. xo
ReplyDeleteWell, I dunno. Having DINNER is throwing in the towel. There's still some potential left after lunch. :)
