For sure. My adventurous one year old knocked out her front tooth going down our stairs. I HAD a gate. I had taken it down just long enough to carry a load of clothes upstairs. Little miss followed me up and went down again thud. She had a hole where the tooth should be until her adult teeth came in. Sigh.
