Supreme
She accepted a 10-day gig watching over a rascally little French bulldog, who must think she's in heaven, so much attention and play does she get from my girl, and her boyfriend too. Maybe it's the two of them that are in heaven with this dog. You'd think she was their child. The dog sitting is actually happening at her boyfriend's house, where there are three roommates to take turns with the walking, feeding, playing and other dog related tasks, but they brought little Supreme (that's her name) over to visit the other night, and she was so excited she promptly peed in our house. My husband cocked one eyebrow and said under his breath, "Let's see how long this takes to go from being a novelty to being a job." With those three, the novelty doesn't seem to be in any danger of wearing off, however. In the midst of this, my girl will be officially moving out this week, so things are really changing around here. At this moment, my husband is alone in the living room laughing heartily at something on the TV. I love to hear him laughing like that, with no audience but himself.

I often think of pets as "starter" children. And sometimes, people get them as surrogate children after the real ones have left the nest...
ReplyDeleteMary, "starter" children, yes, i believe that would apply here, haha.
DeleteDoes this make you a sorta', kinda' doggie grandma?
ReplyDeleteliv, i guess it does!
DeleteThere is nothing surrogate about my feline friend...He is the last of the four that have lived with me for years, all of them were long-lived and happy. Animals are also easier to love than people. I often get comments about how kind I am to my cat. My response is, what would be the point for either of us if I weren't kind? Your girl is both kind and patient, perfect attributes for a pet sitter or animal guardian.
ReplyDeletee, i have a young friend who has had some emotional issues and the therapist suggested he get a pet to help even out his emotional health. it has worked beautifully.
DeleteDog sitting AND moving out ... this will be interesting!
ReplyDeletejenny_o, the more things change...the more we have to adjust. i am deep in adjustment mode.
DeleteYou all sound so jolly!
ReplyDeleteElizabeth, "jolly" papers over so much.
DeleteI love animals. I hate cleaning up pee (and the other thing). Supreme is adorable. Hope you're doing all right with all the changes.
ReplyDeleteBrittany! i hate that cleanup, too. But my daughter did it, so it was ok. And the changes? My God, how quickly they have arrived. Your girls are growing beautifully! I love their individuality and colorful self-expression.
