We watched the Superbowl and were serenaded, too

Our kids and their loves came over, and three other friends of ours, and there was a table full of noshes that people brought, plus three kinds of wings my man had made. We rooted for the Kansas City Chiefs, since the San Francisco 49ers didn't have the courage to protect Colin Kaepernick in his respectful protest against the snuffing out of black lives. It made the choice to root for the underdogs easy, and the underdogs won. Our kids came early, which meant a full afternoon of hanging out and chatting and laughing, the way we do. My niece played her cello for us, the Game of Thrones theme music, Broadway show tunes, Hozier's "Take Me to Church," and some classical pieces. An impromptu concert. We loved it. My daughter teased, "I keep forgetting that my little cousin is seriously talented."

I'm pressing forward in my book and don't feel as if I have much time to write and comment here, though I'm still reading, usually on my phone when I fall into bed at night. Today is the Iowa Caucus, and I'm pretty underwhelmed about the whole thing. Elizabeth Warren is my candidate, but I will vote for any warm body who secures the nomination against Trump. The State of the Union address by the impeached president is tomorrow night, and I won't be watching. Then, on Wednesday, the Senate will bring to a close it's sham impeachment trial, no doubt by acquitting the corrupt president. I'd like to note that Congressman Adam Schiff has been outstanding as a House Manager. I feel his passion as he argues to save the republic. Meanwhile when Trump's lawyers speak, you can hear them lying. The whole thing is a travesty. Democracy and the rule of law have been completely shat on. Let's hope we aren't broken beyond repair. On a brighter note, some pictures from last night.

  1. A lovely gathering, nice photos and you are right about the corruption. My fear is that every election from now on will be corrupt as well.

  3. Now THAT'S a Super Bowl party I could have happily attended.

  4. What a wonderful family gathering you had there with the added delight of cello music. Oh I would have loved to have heard some of that. I've fallen in love with the cello music lately. I am afraid for our country and our planet. It seems like crazy strong men with ruthless ideas have taken over everywhere. We worry, we make plans, we worry.

  5. A beautiful family -- and to be serenaded! Yes, the Superbowl is a good excuse to come together, eat, drink and be merry. We did it, too. We tried (and mostly succeeded) in not talking about politics -- we are all so upset with the Senate charade. Anywhoooo....loved the Latin pride at half-time, especially the display of the Puerto Rican flag. Maybe we have enough Resistors to turn this country around in November. Fingers crossed.

  6. I have no idea about football other than watching Aaron Hernandez on Netflix ( story of)...and that would be enough to turn even the most avid fan of the game into a NOPE. Much prefer your niece playing cello- how wonderful! You certainly have the beauty gene going on in your family, talent and brains...you do realize how exceptional you all are!

  7. not a football fan myself but looks like you had a good day. as for the republicans what I don't get is don't they realize that by letting Trump get away with abuse of power and breaking laws as long as it results in riches for them that they have opened the door for that behavior to be acceptable by a democrat? or do they think they will never lose the majority? at any rate, they have set themselves up to unable to complain about anything the next democratic president does.

  8. Family time (including friends in "family") is good no matter the reason. Good food is always welcome, too :) Lucky you to have such a talented niece to play mini-concerts for you!

It blows my mind how everything the Republicans accuse the Democrats of doing is EXACTLY what they themselves have already done. With glee. They are like bullies in a schoolyard and it seems that none of them have a conscience at all.

  9. My hubby was too sick to watch the whole game and finally went to bed after the half time show. I'm glad Patrick Mahomes and his team won. He looks like a nice young man.

Looks like you guys had a wonderful time and I'm glad your book is coming along.

As for politics, the pendulum will swing back. Eventually tRump will not be president and he will have to answer for what he's done. He has certainly let the Republican party show it's true color.

  10. Sounds like a wonderful day! I'm willing to be that the Super Bowl and a live cello concert are not a common combination.

I'm like you -- literally any warm Democratic body has got to be better than what we have now.

(And can you believe what a mess the caucuses have turned into?!)

  11. You and your family is so awesome. I really wish mine would take part in some traditions like watching the Super Bowl and so forth. I have problems enough with Christmas. They are so humbug about everything. If not for the grandkids they would skip it all together except for two of my children. It is the oldest and youngest in my house that would love for it to be over quickly while I want to drag out every second lol.

I am not able to attend Florida this year. I had a blood vessel that swelled really big in the back of my left eye and ruptured. I have a huge black blob when I look out of that eye. It is blood and will have to be absorbed by my body.
Other than the waiting which can take a couple of months I will go today for the first laser treatment. My specialist said that it is possible that I will have to have some more in-depth kind of treatments.

I am so sorry that your falling into bed exhausted but it is good that your able to really get some writing done.
You take care of yourself and I will talk to you a little later on... Big Hugs xxx
