I can’t breathe

That white Minneapolis cop had his hand in his pocket, all casual, as he pressed his knee into George Floyd’s neck and kept it there for nine minutes. George Floyd wasn’t resisting arrest. He was calling for his mama. The cop didn’t fear for his life. His damn hand was in his pocket, the cameras rolling as he and three other men wearing blue publicly lynched our brother.

  1. How horrible. I have cried for this man and for others that have died because of men in blue that kill rather than protect.
It has to STOP. It has to come to an end. They should all be charged with MURDER because that is what it was. MURDER!!!
It is never going to change. WHY? Because we have so called leaders that promote this kind of violence.
We have leaders that can turn a blind eye to what is happening right before them. A Slap On The Damn Wrist. Big deal they lost their jobs. That should be the least of it. They should be jailed for Murder and yet I read this morning that it might be YEARS before justice is done for George Floyd.
I don't recognize our country anymore. I am ashamed of the way that our country has become numb to death. At the end of the day it does not matter the color of our skin. What matters is that we ALL BLEED RED.
Peace and Comfort to the family and Friends to all men and women that have lost their lives because of Hatred and Bigotry.
I am so very sorry that this has happened and scared of what will happen tomorrow in the name of Justice.

  2. I would like to say that I'm appalled and astounded, but I'm not surprised. I'd also like to say that the current "regime" has created this monster, but the monster has always been there. What I am going to say is that I'm going to try to move beyond platitudes and "ally-hood" and figure out what I can DO in my corner of the world. I am SO SORRY. It's not enough, but I really am.

  3. This is a powerful and compelling post. I googled "What can I do to combat racism" after reading this and google said it found 29 million results. I googled the same thing an hour later and it came up with 177 million. I hope that's not a fluke. I hope that means us white folks are starting to do more than just "care." Caring isn't enough. We need change.

  5. We are all now witnesses to the brutality of our times. We weep for a man murdered right before our eyes. We now wonder about the hatred the lurks in the hearts and minds of people... neighbor and stranger. Who are we? What does it mean to be human? A lifetime of this already... how many more bodies will there be before there is an awakening? Tears are not enough anymore.

  7. I'm so angry about this. The cop's hand in his pocket, signalling how relaxed he was while he was killing Mr. Floyd just makes me want to hit something. The Radish King is correct about the trophy.

  8. Thank God for cameras and documentation. It may make a difference in this case. The cops have been fired and the one with his knee on Mr. Floyd's neck may well be charged. I hope justice will be done, and I hope police officers nationwide are absorbing the message that this kind of public lynching will not be tolerated by modern society.

  9. and the protesters got tear gassed and shot with rubber bullets while the white heavily armed protesters that stormed a state capitol building and got in the cops faces screaming and shoving didn't even get a push back. not only that but it's quite possible the guy that threw the hammer that started the riot/looting might very possibly have been a cop. this country is sick to its core.

  10. There is something deeply wrong with the culture of the US that allows police violence, that allows violence, that allows lying, and cheating and stealing, that allows people to be marginalized, that allows all of this. Why is this allowed? When did police stop being people who helped the public? When did they become bullies with guns and tasers and immunity? I don't understand and I am so sorry.

  11. I have no adequate Words for this atrocity and disregard for the Sanctity of Human Life and Value of all Human Beings. Only when everyone rises up against injustice is there any Hope for Change, Silently being Sorry or Shocked is a poor substitute for Action and giving Voice to what is Right, against what is so Wrong it is incomprehensible.

  12. It's difficult not to want to burn it all down. All of it. But yes, burn it all down. I am sorry. For any other white commenters looking for resources, I've included a list on my blog.

  13. I have no words anymore -- but I know that none of this is going to stop until cops are convicted and sent to prison. And, more importantly, hiring and instruction are changed. Changing hiring and instruction is long-term; charging cops is NOW and needs to happen. And none of the words I have written here reflect the real level of my despair at what we have become.

  14. We have all sat and watched a murder on tv. An actual snuffing of a beautiful human life. And that hand in the pocket.....I will remember it all my life. As casual as pushing my hair out of my face.. This society.........this society what??? I don't have words anymore. Only a gaping hole where this keeps happening and happening.
