I was just so taken with this list of new year resolutions posted on Instagram by writer, artist, and performer Alok Vaid-Menon. Meet Alok, if you don't already know them. A joyful, intrepid, and empathic soul.
Robin, I didn't know Alok either, but was introduced to this extraordinary and beautiful gender nonconforming human by friends at a dinner this past weekend.
Alok does look filled with Joy and Writes with an Old Soul. You used the appropriate pronoun to describe them, I have trouble with that with my own Gender nonconforming Grandson who prefers to be addressed as 'them' or 'they', but knows that after over 20 Years of saying he and him, tho' I embrace his State of Being and always knew the extraordinary Being they are, I slip up all the time with the old pronouns. One Dear Friend, on a day I remembered to keep saying they, waited later to ask who else I was talking about, since The Young Prince was the only person with us... she thought perhaps I'd tipped into dementia territory... that was funny, The Grandson laughed when I told them.
And I would add to his advice- wear colorful platform shoes at all possible times.
ReplyDeleteMary, Alok would certainly agree!
DeleteI've never heard of him, but I love his New Year resolutions, and I truly love that photo of him.

DeleteSometimes you're just too worn out to be kind to yourself.
ReplyDeleteDear Pixie, I hear you. I hope the world can hold you in kindness until you can come back to breath yourself. Sending love, my friend.
DeleteToday is a much better day and I can be kind to myself. I love "fear is inherited", too true.
ReplyDeletePixie, I fear we not only inherit fear, we pass it on. They say all emotion is born of love or born of fear. Here's to leaning into love.
Deletecynicism, it's hard to move past that one. For me. They do look joyful!
ReplyDeleteSandra, another one that resonated for me is "have the compassion to break your own heart." What does it mean exactly? Maybe to be brave?
