Interlude

My son and his wife went to Lake Como, Italy, where as part of a wedding party they stayed in a charming Mediterranean villa with the bride and groom's families. My son said they had an amazing time, and that he may be ruined for every other hospitality experience for life. I love that my children are able to get out in the world and have adventures, that they can know geographies as varied as the green hills and shimmering waters of the Caribbean islands and the Renaissance churches and cobalt lakes of northern Italy. My daughter in law sent me this photo of them taken the day they arrived in Milan, before boarding a train north to meet up with the wedding party at a place called Villa Lario. They're back home now, tired but still with that soft vapor clinging to them that life can be so damned magical.

  6. We stayed on Lake Como about 10/15 years ago, and the tour guide was forever going on about George Clooney being at his villa and pointing it out when we passed along the lakeside road.. On one of the days our 3 men went to play golf and my husband miss hit his ball and it went onto another fairway where it only just missed 4 men. He went down alone to retrieve the ball and apologise. When we were killing time in Milan airport on the way home he saw a photograph of George and Brad Pitt on a magazine, and said.....that is who I spoke to on the golf course!! We are not filmgoers, so he had no idea at the time who he was talking to. I bet they thought it odd that he didn't seem to know them!! (Probably nice for them). The holiday was great, it is a lovely area.

  7. That's a part of Italy I've never seen. It must be amazing to watch your kids have these experiences and see their horizons (hardly narrow to begin with) grow.
