Happy Birthday Daddy

Above, Daddy in May of 1945, the year he met my mother. I found this old driver's license photo in the pages of my mom's Bible, which is where she keeps all papers of exceptional value to her. Daddy was 22 years old in that picture, the age my son is now. My dad has been gone 17 years and yet he guides me still. Below, that's him with my son, his first grandson and second grandchild, 20 years ago. They were such pals.

  1. Wow! Your daddy (in that top photo) looks like Will Smith. Happy Birthday, Angella's Daddy!

    1. Nancy, that's so funny that would say that because my son's friends keep telling him that he reminds them of Will Smith, yet he looks nothing like my dad! But maybe in 20 or 30 more years he will! Ha!

    1. Ms. Moon, I do miss him. I have never properly written about him. He was such a fine man, deeply emotional in a world that didnt always respect deep emotionalism from a man, but he had my mom, and he wore the mask otherwise. But not with us. I love him so. Such an unerring moral center, and he didn't even have to work at it. It was just who he was. Thank you.

  6. I love those wonderful photos of your father. I know my father's birthday can be painful, I hope this was a day of happy remembrance instead of grief for you.
