I am here

Writing a first draft is such an endlessly surprising process. I often don't know what is going to flow onto the page, or rather the blank screen, until the words appear. I love this process when the ideas, especially the subconscious ones, are flowing. I love it even when they aren't, even when I have to sift through mountains of research and digest it into effortless, accessible, humanizing prose. That's the goal anyway. I do my best, because there is no other work I would rather do. Today, I am conscious of being grateful.

  3. I wouldn't have understood this post until I started blogging, because I never wrote much before. It is a long way from blogging to writing a book, of course, but even a blog post can start one way and finish up in a surprising place, and I've noticed, as you say, it can be very subconscious!

What a beautiful room and a beautiful view. A lovely place to work.

  4. I am about halfway through Overcome and I can attest to your gift for writing. You are definitely in the write profession! I’m not kidding. Your writing goes very deep but at the same time, it is easy to read and flows beautifully. I read a lot and it’s rare to find a writer who can do both.
