And so I am

The last book I collaborated on comes out on March 3, 2020. My name isn't on this one, though by contract I'm free to tell people I ghostwrote it. The book is getting amazing reviews everywhere, which is thrilling, and pre-orders have been so strong that the editor at the publishing house emailed us last week to say they were going to a second printing even before the book is officially published. She wrote, "Rosemarie, I hope you take a bow." And so I am—this is my bow. Here's the cover and a link.

  1. WOMAN! Swoon! A second printing before it's even out!?! I want to go to every bookstore when it does come out and point to it and announce, "MY friend wrote that book!"
    Is that okay?
And yet, you have doubts that you can do it again. I love that about you. It shows how deeply you care, how important each and every book is to you.
    I love you.

  2. Congratulations on the success of this book so far! And all the best for the one on which you are now working. You can't hear it but I'm cheering inside my head for both books and for you.

  3. Congratulations on that second printing! I hope you can hear me cheering all the way from California. That's truly grand. It's an interesting juxtaposition... your anxiety about the latest work and the utter success of the previous. You are the talent, the heart, the mind and the passion that tells the story. You have done it...you can do it!

  4. This book looks amazing. Your meeting with your editor sounds like the “one on ones” I used to be forced to have with THE MINOTAUR. No matter how well they went they always caused a huge amount of stress. I feel you so hard right now.

    1. Rebecca, and now I am home, it went fine, she was lovely, but somehow having it behind me makes me feel as if I can move forward with my life again, my breath is no longer caught. I know you understand.

  6. Is this normal in publishing to not acknowledge the ghost writer on the cover? If it weren't for ghost writers, many important stories would never be told. Congratulations on the second printing. Woot!

    1. Allison, it varies from book to book; sometimes your name is on the book, sometimes the publisher would rather a single name on the cover for whatever reason, and the writer has to be satisfied with a generous acknowledgement inside the book. It's all agreed on beforehand, so we know what we're getting into and have the opportunity to agree to terms. Some books you do for love. Even though I don't get public credit, this was a project I loved. The subject is so very controversial out in the world, and gets death threats from extreme right wing nutjobs all the time. Fortunately people she has worked with know she is all about love and intersectional organizing. I think that's why her book is doing so well. Despite the awful untrue things the far right press writes about her, she has a huge, devoted following, and lots of love from very boldfaced names. I loved working with her. Heart on her sleeve, always.

  7. I greatly enjoy your blog and the many things you write about. It is clear to me that you are a soulful, loving ,very talented woman who is deeply committed to the well being of so many things and people...humanity in general I would say. I share your feelings on so many, many subjects and thoughts you've shared and am so glad to find a new post waiting to be read. I've just pre ordered your newest book . I don't understand why you and other ghost writers don't receive credit publicly for what you have written. To me that is rather baffling. I really admire you!!mary in Colorado

    1. Mary, thank you so much for this lovely comment, and for ordering the book! Re credit, see my response above. Between us, I suspect my subject did not want to put me in harm's way. Credit or no, I still had the experience of working on this book. I learned so much. I hope you enjoy it. xo

    2. Thankyou for responding to my comment!! If I had read your reply to "Allison" about the various reasons for sometimes not identifying ghost writers before I wrote II would have better understood. The fact that you have been "her voice" on such an important issue speaks volumes about who you are. I admire you even more , Mary in Colorado

  8. What awesome news that this book is in second printing... Wow that is so very powerful and I am very happy that your taking a bow! You deserve it... I am sending you Love and Light and all the best vibes from my heart. WTG Paddy!!!

I'm playing catch up on all of my blog reading. I have had to scale back some and I had to take a break from the computer for the last 3 weeks. Not really my intent but it couldn't be helped...
I will be in touch so take care and I really hope that all went well over coffee with your editor. I know that you will work hard to make it a success, it will just take time for you to gather your rhythm. Big Hugs!!!

  9. I'm glad the reception on Sarsour's book has been so promising! May it go into many, many more printings. :)

And yes, I think your friend's advice is sound. All writers wrestle with doubts -- it's just part of the process, at least for GOOD writers. Feign complete control and confidence, because whether you realize it or not, you have both deep down.
