Fire sky

Here are some shots of the sky last night as I sat working at my dining table next to the window. The spun gold leaves are gone, and the sky is bringing its fire. I'm trying to hold on to the fact of such blazing beauty in this painfully galling moment. I'm watching the impeachment hearings. I have goosebumps to tell you the truth, because really, this feels momentous. And yet it is unlikely that the president will be impeached in the end, because the majority of Republicans in Congress have no moral center. In fact, it appears that their strategy this morning is to muddy the waters by interrupting committee chair Adam Schiff with all manner of ridiculous questions and comments that are either misleading or outright falsehoods. I feel so riled up right now. Sociopaths are setting fire to America in full view, and no one on the political right seems to care. I'm trying to maintain perspective, but it's hard. Acting U.S. Ambassador Bill Taylor, a 50-year career diplomat, is giving his opening statement now. He is the soul of credibility, reasonable, principled and clear, and he's calming me down somewhat. His testimony will surely be followed by Republican lies and obfuscation. Here is what the sky did when the fire burned itself out, and night began to fall. There's a metaphor in there somewhere, but I can't quite suss it out.

  1. your photos are amazing! I started to watch the hearings but could not continue after about five minutes. I do want to live, just like you...and this will surely kill me. Turn it off and wait for the end of it. Which will likely be the same horror of Orange Gas until that man dies!

  2. OMGosh I cannot watch the hearings. The lies the republicans are spewing and I cant believe this.
I am of the question... If the impeachment investigation is about the President and getting to the truth, Isn't it Obstruction for him to tell others not to comply with the Congressional subpoenas? Somehow that speaks to me of Obstruction but I don't know the legal ins and outs but I think that it is wrong because how else can we learn the truth.
No he will not be impeached or removed from office and I am so afraid that we will have to endure another 4 years because I feel he will say Voter Fraud, Voter Miscount... something to keep him where he is... It makes me sick to my stomach.
Try not to get caught up. I know it is hard. I just didn't turn on the tv but I haven't escaped the headlines... Hugs my sweet friend. We will make it through some how. xx

  4. it's on here but I'm not really watching it. I've given up hope that the republicans will put the country before their lust for power. empires come and go but I never thought I would see the end of America. surely that was far in the future. it will all come down to the election which the republicans will do their best to undermine through voter suppression something they have been working on for the last decade. the crap Trump's campaign is putting out there makes me nauseous with it's hate and lies. the new strategy from the White House/Republicans towards this investigation is, OK, threats were made but not by Trump. it was all his underlings doings and he didn't know and is innocent.

  5. Your photographs are wonderful! Turn off the hearings. Torturing yourself will not make them go the right way. Save yourself!

  6. It's sad that we have elected officials going along with all this fraud that our so called President is involved in. It's a sad day in America right now. This no good Trump is getting away with being crooked and he has our elected officials participating with him. It's a sad time in America. It has to get better and I will always say, every dog has a day and That no good Trump day is right around the corner. He will fall and when he does, there's no getting back up. God is in control, not Trump

  7. I have to dip in and out of the news because of the horrible feelings it stirs up in me. My hat is off to those who are in the thick of this and can't just tune it out, such as Democrat leaders and journalists and even everyday Republicans who do not agree with Trump's horror show (they do exist). I cannot lose hope that the conflagration happening right now will eventually become peaceful like those beautiful skies in your last pictures.

  8. I was not in a place I could watch or listen to the testimony today but if I had been, I would have listened. I don't know that it does me any good to do that but it doesn't do me any good to not do it, either. We SHOULD be outraged and frightened. We SHOULD be disgusted and we should still be shocked that Republicans are getting away with the lies they tell just as their president gets away with the lies he tells. Remember how amazed we all were when Trump claimed the crowd at his inauguration was so much bigger than it was and there were pictures to prove him wrong? Little did we know that he opens his mouth and lies fall out and no one seems to be holding him accountable. This is not normal and it's not right.

  9. I watched it from the beginning with my son because I watched the Nixon hearings and the historical impact of that has never left me. I did take a quick break to get flea medicine from my vet and some very unhealthy breakfast foods including chocolate milk and eggnog from a local dairy farm marionberry turnovers from the bait&tackle which I balanced with three oranges. Now I am basking in silence and a hefty book. Sending love from my forest to your gorgeous city and to you.

  10. We watched a little of it, I was so impressed with the grace and dignity of Ambassador Taylor. Compare and contrast to the orange cheeto and his fourth grade vocabulary. We caught part of Gym Jordan on the radio and had to turn it off. The Republicans have sold their souls.

  11. Beautiful colors! I’m still hoping good prevails over evil but it gets so hard when there seems to be no repercussions, just incredibly lame lies and excuses. The republicans have indeed sold their souls.

  13. I'm not watching it because it will get my knickers in a twist and I have no control over it. I hope and pray that good prevails.

  14. The sky there is a beautiful balance to the utter insanity in which we find our government these days. I live in a state of fear and shock by what I watch unfold before my eyes. We are living in very challenging times.
