This is the final day of the presidency of Barack Obama, the finest president of my lifetime. I have no adequate words to express just how dignified this president has been in the face of, let's just say, opposition. He has managed to keep his empathy and humor through it all, which I think is evidence of his fierce intelligence, bedrock goodness, and ability to take the long view. Plus, let's just face it, the man is cooler than just about anybody else on the planet. I think I'll just mark this day with photographs of our president with children over the course of the past eight years, because he has been a powerful role model for young people of all backgrounds. Look at the joy. Children know.
These are wonderful! I especially love the second one, although all of them are compelling.
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine how the Obama family is feeling right now. I can't.
Thank you.
ReplyDeleteMy heart is breaking. Even if Hilary had won, I would just be so sad to see this good man and his good wife and their beautiful children leave the White House.
ReplyDeleteAnd now, well...you know. Perhaps I should say that my heart is shattered. It feels that way.
Beautiful. Got to love him.
ReplyDeleteMany of us in New Zealand are concerned for you all now and send love.

I love them so much and I'm so sad their stay in the white house is done. I'm comforted by the fact that they're still around, just not in Washington, and he'll always be our president. The photos you've shared are lovely. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteThis moved me to tears. He will always be my president.
ReplyDeleteXoxo
Barbara
As he walks away, he is still a husband and a dad.
ReplyDeleteThat picture of the boy kissing the girl and her looking none too pleased!
This is beautiful. Yes, children know!
ReplyDelete100% agree with you. Thank you President Obama! Best president!!! Thanks for posting all those great pictures too!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos. What a lovely man he is. Good luck USA and the rest of us with the next incumbent !
ReplyDeleteGoosebumps.
ReplyDeleteOh, you made me cry! Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI wrote him a goodbye/thank-you letter, and he wrote back. His response is moving and leaves Hope in its wake.
Beautiful. I found myself crying sad but grateful tears as I heard them announce over the radio that they'd be playing "Hail to the Chief" for Obama for the last time. Oh my! I'm tearing up again! Thank you Angella <3
ReplyDeleteI'm just seeing these today and am sitting here weeping. You picked such good ones. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteYou said it: we have seen the best. He will always be my president. Now, as I join the resistance, I just keep thinking, "If he could take it, I can take it. We do this for America and also, in a small way, for him--because although he wasn't perfect, he represented the best in us." Mary
