Beyonce in the rain

All my wordsmithing energy is going into the book lately. I got a bit behind during the approval process for that first chapter and I'm pressing to make up time. Please forgive my scarcity here. I'm just popping in now to post these pictures I don't want to lose track of. My daughter and her girl group, known since childhood as The Six, went to see Beyonce perform at the MetLife Arena in New Jersey last night. My daughter loves Bey. Unfortunately thunderstorms over the open arena caused a rain delay of hours, and at 2 a.m. my girl texted me that she was reluctantly leaving before the end of the concert to travel home. Our exchange made me smile.

Here are a couple more photos of those beauties for old times sake.

At a rest stop on the way to their school's farm.

Rehearsing for a first grade talent show.

  1. Sending love as you catch up with the approval process of the book. Thank you so much for posting the photo of the The Six on a rainy Beyonce concert night. They put their common welfare first in deciding to leave early. Splendid rain gear! Splendid young spirits! Thank you for your presence!

    1. Mary, they actually were listening, though when they were teens there was not much evidence of that!

    1. robin, i never really worried when these girls were together when they were growing up. they had their wild times of course but they always looked out for and cared for each other. they know each other now like family.

    1. ellen, nothing like friends who knew you when, and saw you becoming who you are.

  6. I love the photo flashbacks! It's too bad they had to leave the show early, but it's nice that they stick together -- even now.

    1. Steve, yes, it was a pity they couldn't stay for the whole show. they all had work the next day, and now they are grown and responsible in that way! hard to wrap my mind around that sometimes!

  7. On the one hand, how wonderful that they are all looking out for each other and that your daughter has learned that lesson.

On the other hand, how painful to realise that young women have to make this decision again and again, what a lesson we have to teach our girls, that women are not safe at night.

    1. Oh Sabine, you're so right. Such piercing clarity. And this is so much the norm that it wasn't even at the forefront of my consciousness until you mentioned it. And yet I knew to teach my girl this lesson, i knew I dared not neglect to impart the truth of being a girl, now a woman in this world. Dear God.

    1. Linda Sue, I'm trying. But I miss everyone here when i stay away, so i won't stay away very long, i'm sure. the writing is arduous sometimes, though. it's not all sweetness and light that's for sure.
