Around

1. Couple at a bus stop. I loved the warmth and familiarity in their shared body language so I asked if I could take their picture.

2. Jin Ramen and Noodle Shop, a piece of heaven under the train tracks.

3. Inside Jin, waiting for take out. The place is always full and among its patrons eating is a serious business.

4. Shenanigans with my son and friends as they returned home from a rugby game last Saturday. I was bench-sitting.

  1. Okay- that woman's shoes in the top picture? I have the very ones. Wore them today. Have been wearing them for decades. That cracked me up.
Love these little slices of life.

    1. Ms. Moon, I rather like those shoes. She did have a rather cool vibe that makes me think in another universe, you and she are friends.

  2. Lovely to see life in your neighborhood and your girl looks radiant, too.

  3. I love each of these -- so much energy in them. I think you have this beautiful eye that is able to remain perfectly still yet capture so much energy. Have you ever compiled your photos into some sort of book -- a themed one -- a montage?

    1. Elizabeth, I have always loved photographs and photography, but it never occurred to me to do a book. I think this blog is where I "publish" them, and I appreciate the indulgence of everyone who reads here regularly as I do so. I've been thinking about the fact that I love to edit my photos after the fact, not always but often, and yet I appreciate the purists like Steve Reed who would never do the kind of pushing of color and saturation that I do. There is a place for all of us, I suppose! Thanks for these kind words.

    1. Thanks, Steve. Isn't that couple exactly who you picture when you think of the Upper West Side? Zabars bag and everything!

  5. How I love what you do. I can't imagine being both vulnerable enough and brave enough to ask strangers if I could photograph them. I'm so glad you did it. I love seeing the city through your eyes.

    1. Vesuvius, they were so open and gracious when I asked. I stood in oncoming traffic to get their picture as the bus stop was right at the curb. I really wanted to ask them about themselves, who they were, what they were cooking for dinner, what he was reading in the paper, how they met, but I thought I'd imposed enough.
