Gone Fishing

On the phone last night, my daughter told me with great excitement that the theme of the banquet at camp tonight will be mardi gras. "Isn't that awesome synchronicity, Mom," she said. "I was like, are you kidding me?" And she told me that in honor of Harry Potter she was making a wand in the art shop, that she had found the perfect stick in the woods and was busy cleaning and sanding and carving it. Did I mention she is a Harry Potter fan? On postsecret.com, we once saw a postcard that someone had sent that said, "I didn't do drugs because I didn't think Harry Potter would approve," and she said, "Yes! Somebody understands!" Last night she also said, when I mentioned something about college visits this fall, "Oh Mom, I have no idea how I am going to go back to school and all that. I am so deeply a summer person. This might be the best summer of my life." Lord, we love when our babies are happy, and they are. I'm in a happy mood this morning too. I'm with my love of 25 years, off on a grand adventure.

From the depths of me, I want to thank each of you for the wise and thought-provoking and ultimately equilibrium-restoring comments on my last post. This place can be like group therapy of the most generous sort, and I am grateful and humbled. I'm sending big carnival floats of love.

"I'm picturing some place tropical...moonlight for days...some place where you can be...intimate...out of doors...."

  10. I love the comment about Harry Potter -- I wonder how many kids Harry Potter has helped to keep off drugs?? It's interesting how a fictional character can serve as such a strong role model!

  12. Must go read your last post, as well! I know that there are many who share their wonderful wisdom with you here, so I am sure that someone said what I would have said, anyway:)

Two of my daughters are absolute Harry Potter fans and insist on rereading the books before each movie comes out. My oldest and my third. My second and my youngest, not as much. Gabriella, my third, wants me to read the series so badly, but I haven't yet. Silly, I have read the entire Twilight series(in the name of wanting to know what the big deal amongst the teens was;)) but have not read any Potter yet. Have you read the Harry Potter books? Seems like I am always finding something that I would rather dive into, but maybe soon.

So happy that you are happy! Can't wait to hear about your grand adventure!

    So much love,
    Deb

  13. Thanks for all the happy travel wishes. we have gone and returned, and had a wonderful adventure.

susan, we threw quite a few dollars. consider it on the house.

    ms moon, oh that truvy!

denise, there are indeed many ways to be wise, lol!

grady doc, she is my synchronistic child.

    silverfin, she is, at that.

misha, it is so nice to see you here. hugs.

    elizabeth, thanks! xo

    rebecca, *hands clapping*

ABL, mardi gras every day. now there's a thought!

Steve, i think my daughter is still mourning the fact that her letter by owl never came, inviting her to study at hogwarts. she is trying to reconcile the fact that she may well be a muggle.

Mark, as someone i know who never paid his bills used to say, "i'd rather owe you than cheat you out of it."

Debra, i loved harry potter way more than twilight. you have to get past the first couple of chapters of the first book, and persevere past book 2, which i found to be the weakest, but still entertaining. if you get to book 3, there will be no turning back! my daughter would be envious that you still have the experience of harry potter ahead of you.

    mouse, thank you, friend!
