While Wrapping Gifts

I mostly avoid posting pictures of myself here. Whatever it says about me, I don't much like looking at my own image. But I don't want to miss recording moments such as this one while wrapping gifts, when when my daughter put reindeer antlers with little red bows on my head, pulled on her Santa hat, then plopped in my lap, hugged me and said, "Daddy, take a picture of us!" The background's blurred because really, it was a mess, but my girl? To me, she shines.

  1. So does your girl's mama. No matter how you feel about it.

  3. I love when you post pictures of you. And you know what? My sister, Deanna, didn't like me taking photos of her much. She was here at our house every day with the kids doing homework, etc. and can you believe that I barely have any photos of that time? In fact, I don't have a single image of her at the kitchen table with the kids--which I would give anything to have right now. I guess it was just so everyday, so given, you know? As much as I'm the paparazzi, I can't believe I didn't take at least one snap with her in it. Just pictures of times when I know she was there but she wasn't in any of them. Kids at the table, her bag and stuff are in it--just not her.

The very, very few I have from those times at home or at the boys' games I cherish so much. So my point? Let them take your picture. Especially during these special moments--but in the every day times, too. Smile, hug, and let them capture your image . . . you must.

Perhaps you do already and just don't post them. It's okay not to post them. Just be sure that they're happening and that you're letting your own face be a part of the historical registry. Much love to you at Christmas and always.
