What Sabine said

Wise woman Sabine, who lives in Germany, left this comment on my post "Tender Age" camps. I implore everyone who reads here, please take this in.

"Please, please be aware that this is not the start of fascism. You are way into it. Ask any scholar. While I truly hope for you that voting can bring change, be aware that we all across the globe need to get ready to fight this monster. Whether you call it populist or call it fascist."

  1. Oh Fucking fuck. Sabine is so wise and so knowledgeable about history that I do believe her and my instincts have told me this is true but I have not wanted to believe my gut.
    Well.
    Enough of that fantasy.

  2. I believe that. Unleashed. The day after he was elected people were warning about it. Tim Snyder's Twenty Lessons from the 20th Century were prescient and deserve another look.

  3. Thank you for putting the focus on Sabine's sober voice of experience from Germany. There is a worldwide community arising and growing that can confront and disarm this monster that has many heads not only here in the U.S. but throughout the world. Just how and when this will happen has yet to be seen. No easy answers. This is an age-old monster that continues to haunt the world. It was Martin Luther King, Jr., who named three of its manifestations: the evil of racism, the evil of poverty, and the evil of war. There is also an age-old power that will never stop in its fearless efforts to confront and disarm that monster. Martin Luther King, Jr., joined with those of all faiths as well as atheists and agnostics in affirming that together we are not powerless. The message he came to carry after being nearly overcome by fear is, "Be not afraid." He was afraid and then something happened late one night when he was alone in the kitchen of the house where he lived with his family. That experience removed his fear of death and made it possible for him to go forward against impossible odds. He believed in the impossible. He knew that there were no easy answers. He did what he could and encouraged us all to do the same. I know you know this too, Rosemarie. It has helped me just now to write out my thoughts. Thank you for everything you bring to light here, joy and sorrow.

  4. Yes, I think that many of us have known it in the pit of our stomachs since the election. But how dare we compare him to Hitler no matter how clear it is. I held my granddaughter and told her before the election that it couldn't possibly happen. He wouldn't be elected. I can no longer give her any words of comfort. I am worthless as a protector.

  5. Thank you for sharing Sabine's wise words with us. We are all waiting for this nightmare tide to turn toward the light.
