The Usual Posture 3

This picture makes me happy.
She's so absorbed by her self-assigned task.
So capable and focused. Pure flow.

  3. Kristin! Welcome! I happen to know your sister, or rather, I worked with her in the past, and it was a sublime creative experience. My name here on this blog is a composite of my parents' middle names, which are also my middle names, so your sister wouldn't know me by this moniker. But I am so excited to see you here, and thrilled you commented. I'm off to visit you over where you live in blog world. I hope you come again often. Oh, and that beautiful girl is my daughter. I love her so much.

  6. Beautiful. She looks so entirely capable able to capture the world and sail it like a kite. What a great photo for her to have when she is old for her to see the strengh and resolve in her face even then.

  7. Does what she is feeling come out in her cooking? Being so close to her, I can't help but wonder if you do not detect this sometimes. Maybe not as explicit as in "Like Water for Chocolate" but in some way that only someone as close to her as you would know. I think cooks put a little of themselves into what they cook. And I can't help but feel that their emotions and feelings do influence their choices of what and how to cook. I experienced this for myself once. This picture captures for me a possible moment when she puts something of herself into that batter.

  9. Radish King, thank you! Definitely something I will share with my girl, the idea that one might "capture the world and sail it like a kite." I think she is capable of that, too.

  10. Unka Bruce! She loves that book, Like Water for Chocolate. It's not surprising that you would discern that! The thing is, for her cooking is a kind of meditation, it quiets any turbulence she might be feeling, so what is left is (usually) engagement and love and the feeling of being able to dream of doing a thing and make it so. And that is definitely something of herself.

    Love to you, dear bro.
